HOD Message

Keeping abreast with the latest research trends, the department of Mathematics is offering Ph. D. program in Mathematics since the academic session 2011-12. The faculty members of the department have so far guided 09 Ph. D. scholars leading to their Ph. D. degree in Mathematics. The department of Mathematics also offers a Masters’ program in Mathematics to the qualified undergraduates leading them to earn the degree of M. Sc. (Mathematics).

With the continuous advances in technology, large quantities of data are being collected, stored, and efficiently managed, but to analyse them and discover hidden information, the foundation of Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science is imperative. The Department of Mathematics at GLA University offers a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mathematics of 3 years and a B.Sc. (Hons. /By Research) degree in Mathematics of 4 years with a specialization in Data Science. It is an interdisciplinary programme, an amalgamation of the fields of Mathematics and Data Science. It is designed especially to build up a strong foundation in Mathematics to enhance analytical and computational skills of the students.

From the strong school of Applied Mathematics, the department has a balanced expertise covering various areas of Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research and Data Science. The department is looking forward to encourage young faculty members across diversified areas of Mathematics. We are a strong mix of 27 experienced and well-qualified faculty members with 2 Professors, 6 Associate Professors and 19 Assistant Professors who are catering to the demand of highest standards in academics. It is a matter of pride for us that the faculty members and the research scholars of the department have so far published more than 430 research papers in reputed SCI/ Scopus indexed journals.

The department of Mathematics has signed an MoU with Mangosuthu University of Technology, South Africa to improve the collaborative research and technology transfer along with many other mutual benefits to the students and faculty of Mathematics. The department organizes conferences, workshops, faculty development programs and guest lectures at regular intervals for the benefit of research scholars, students and the faculty members. The department owns a Pi-Maths club which conducts various academic activities round the year to develop creativity, sharpen mathematical abilities and inculcate a sense of social responsibilities in the students.
