HOD's Message
Biotechnology is transforming healthcare, agriculture, food production, environmental sustainability and industrial processes. Advances in genomics, molecular diagnostics, computational biology, artificial intelligence and bio-manufacturing are continuously creating new opportunities for research and innovation. Our responsibility is therefore not only to teach established knowledge, but also to prepare students to contribute to these emerging areas.
Since its establishment in 2007, the Department of Biotechnology at GLA University has evolved into a multidisciplinary academic and research environment offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education in biotechnology and allied life sciences.
Our academic philosophy emphasizes strong scientific foundations, hands-on laboratory experience and exposure to contemporary technologies. Students are encouraged to develop experimental, analytical and problem-solving skills through practical training, research projects, internships and interaction with academia and industry.
Faculty and students pursue research across areas such as host–pathogen interactions, infectious diseases and immunology, molecular diagnostics, genomics and bioinformatics, cancer biology and virology, eye disorders, medicinal plants and natural products, plant biotechnology, fermentation technology and nano-biotechnology.
The Department continues to strengthen collaborations with universities, research institutions, healthcare organizations and industry to expand opportunities for research, training, innovation and knowledge exchange.
Looking ahead, our vision is to build a department recognized for high-quality education, impactful research, innovation and strong student outcomes. We aim to nurture scientifically competent, creative and responsible graduates who can contribute meaningfully to biotechnology, healthcare, research and society.
