Advance Research Laboratory is a specialized research centre undertaking basic, applied, and translational research in animal health, and infectious disease management.
The laboratory integrates molecular biology, microbiology, immunodiagnostics, and biotechnology to address livestock and public health challenges within a One Health framework.
Our research focuses on the molecular and genetic epidemiology and diagnostics of infectious diseases, particularly Johne’s disease (a severe, chronic enteric disease in cattle and ruminants) and bovine tuberculosis (bTB). We investigate breed- and genotype-associated disease resistance and susceptibility to support the conservation, genetic improvement, and sustainable management of indigenous livestock.
The laboratory also investigates Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) in domestic livestock and its potential association with Crohn’s disease and other immune-mediated disorders in human population. Our research aims to reduce the transmission and environmental dissemination of infectious agents through milk, water, pasture, and other environmental sources, contributing to improved animal and public health.
The laboratory is equipped with advanced infrastructure for molecular diagnostics, microbiology, immunology, and protein characterization, including a CFX96 Real-Time PCR System, MGIT 360 system, T100 Gradient PCR, Nano-spectrophotometer, ELISA reader, SDS-PAGE and Western blot systems, Lyophilizer, MiliQ water system, Probe sonicator, Refrigerated centrifuge, −80°C deep freezer, and Class II-Type A2 biological safety cabinet. These facilities support DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, molecular diagnostics, protein analysis, immunoassays, and controlled handling of Mycobacterium species.
The laboratory has successfully completed 10 extramural research projects funded by national agencies including DBT, BIRAC, ICAR-NASF, NRDC, and CST-UP. These projects have generated peer-reviewed publications, patents, indigenous technologies, and trained research manpower. The laboratory remains committed to developing affordable, innovative, and field-relevant technologies for disease surveillance, diagnosis, prevention, and sustainable livestock health.
