Faculty Coordinator: Dr. Surendra Kumar Gupta (Assistant Professor)

Technical Assistant: Mr. Santosh Kumar

The Digital Electronics Lab (BECG 0808) provides students with practical experience in the design, implementation, and verification of fundamental digital circuits. The laboratory complements the theory of digital electronics through hands-on experiments involving logic gates, combinational circuits, and sequential circuits. Students work with logic-gate integrated circuits and use computer-based software applications to test and analyze digital circuit behaviour.

Objectives

  • To implement basic combinational and sequential circuits and learn to use integrated circuit (IC) packages.
  • To test and analyze combinational and sequential circuits using a computer software application.

Experiments

  • To verify the truth tables of basic and universal logic gates using logic-gate ICs.
  • To design basic gates using universal gates.
  • To design and implement a half-adder and a full-adder using logic gates.
  • To design and implement a half-subtractor and a full-subtractor using logic gates.
  • To design and implement a 4-bit parallel binary adder-subtractor.
  • To design and implement a 2×4 decoder using logic gates.
  • To design and implement 2×1 and 4×1 multiplexers (MUX) using logic gates.
  • To design and implement SR, JK, D, and T flip-flops.
  • To implement a MOD-10 decade counter.
  • To implement MOD-8/MOD-16 ripple binary up counters.

Major Tools / Hardware

  • Logic-gate integrated circuit (IC) packages and Trainer Kit.
  • DSO, Function Generator, Power Supply.
  • Digital circuit implementation and testing setup, as required for the prescribed experiments.
  • Computer-based digital circuit simulation/testing software application

Outcomes

After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Implement basic combinational and sequential circuits and use integrated circuit packages.
  • Analyze combinational and sequential circuits using a computer software application.
