Animal House

The animal house facility of the IPR is registered with the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA), Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climatic Change, Government of India for the Education and Breeding of small laboratory animals since 2009. One floor of the building is dedicated to housing and quarantining small laboratory animals like rats, mice, guinea pigs, and rabbits, with each animal species housed in a separate room. All rooms are ventilated, and controlled with temperature (23 ± 3°C), relative humidity (60±10 %), and 12:12 hrs light and dark cycle as per CCSEA guidelines. The Animal House has different rooms along with sterilization, air conditioning, and facility with sanitation conditions as follows: an experimental animal room for rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, and Wistar rats, two research laboratories in the animal house facility, quarantine room, room for animal feed, and washing room. A full-time veterinarian provides veterinary care. Animal house attendant regularly clean and disinfects corridors, storage spaces, animal rooms, and other areas. The water bottles, cages, and bedding are routinely sterilized. The incinerator is used for waste disposal, including animal carcasses. Institute of Pharmaceutical Research, GLA University IAEC committee meets biannually to approve research projects according to CCSEA Guidelines and inspection of animal houses.
