Keeping abreast with the latest research trends, the department of Mathematics is offering Ph. D. program in Mathematics since the academic session 2011-12. The faculty members of the department has so far guided 08 Ph. D. scholars leading to their Ph. D. degree in Mathematics. The department of Mathematics also offers a Masters’ program in Mathematics to the qualified undergraduates leading them to earn the degree of M. Sc. (Mathematics). The students of M. Sc. (Mathematics) have the choice of selecting Data Science as their specialization. The program M. Sc. (Mathematics) is important to the job-seekers because the demand of skilled data scientists is immense in the world but the supply of committed and talented professionals is limited. The data scientists command huge salaries and excellent perks, even at the entry level.
From the strong school of Applied Mathematics, the department has a balanced expertise covering various areas of Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research and Data Science. The department is looking forward to encourage young faculty members across diversified areas of Mathematics. We are a strong mix of 16 experienced and well-qualified faculty members with 1 Professor, 4 Associate Professors and 11 Assistant Professors who are catering to the demand of highest standards in academics. It is a matter of pride for us that the faculty members and the research scholars of the department have published 206 research papers in reputed SCI/ Scopus indexed journals in the last 5 years.
The department of Mathematics has signed an MoU with Mangosuthu University of Technology, South Africa to improve the collaborative research and technology transfer along with many other mutual benefits to the students and faculty of Mathematics. The department organizes conferences, workshops, faculty development programs and guest lectures at regular intervals for the benefit of research scholars, students and the faculty members. The department owns a Pi-Maths club which conducts various academic activities round the year to develop creativity, sharpen mathematical abilities and inculcate a sense of social responsibilities in the students.
