In charge of coordinating the interaction of these studies with those of other state and federal agencies and also with ground water modeling research projects currently underway.   • Graduate Research Assistant (March 1993 – June 1996)
    Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho, USA. Worked on a project, which aimed at developing means of using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) to measure soil-water content in mountainous rangeland areas. The project was in cooperation with NASA and was funded by USDA/ARS. The project involved extensive use of GIS and image processing capabilities. Scientist (January 1990 – February 1993) and Senior Research Assistant (March 1986 – December 1989), National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), India. Research topics include water quality, water conservation, evaporation estimation and control, drought assessment and management, development of drought indices in GIS environment using remote sensing, meteorological, hydrological, and agricultural data of six drought affected (during 1985 - 1987) states of India. Indices helped federal government in planning short and long-term drought management strategies. Published 10 technical reports and 5 research papers.
  • Visiting Scientist (January - March, 1992)
    International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences (ITC), Enschede, the Netherlands.
  • Learned principles and applications of GIS. Interactively incorporated field knowledge into a computer assisted decision-making procedure using GIS. Interactively integrated data and applied decision model. Used GIS for environmentally sound management of natural resources. Worked on use of GIS for hydrological modeling. Evaluated ground water recharge to the Bandung basin (Indonesia) using water balance model in a GIS.
