Call for Papers

The conference is jointly organized by the Center for International Law and Global Governance (CILGG), Institute of Legal Studies and Research (ILSR), GLA University, Mathura;Faculty of Law, Nepal Law Campus (NLC), Tribhuvan University, Nepal; and Department of Law, Bangladesh Army International University of Science and Technology (BAIUST), Cumilla, Bangladesh. The tripartite joint conference will bring a distinct and distinguished academic, scholar, researcher, developmental expert, green environmentalist and other to share their work and also extend future possibilities of cooperation in the major and sub-themes of the conference. The emerging trends on environment share and impose ‘shared responsibility’ of states across trans-boundary protection and promotion.

Nepal, India and Bangladesh ecologically are very distinct region sharing extent larger common environmental issues and problems. The tri-lateral relation among these nations is also assumed very smooth and is always seen as standing together in most of the forum for protecting and promoting the environmental issues and concerns. The development ration in region is comparatively equal and has impact of one’s on another jurisdiction. The cross cultural movement and relation of these nations is further requiring a strong policy, program of action to common environmental issues.

The conference aims to provide a platform to critically engage with the emerging legal and policy challenges in the area of environmental protection through forests in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. The abstracts are invited from young scholars, academicians, legal practitioners, and policy makers on the theme of the conference, including but not limited to the following sub-themes:

  • Environment protection and the role of forests: conservation and sustainable management of forests, and a quest for  environmental justice
  • International obligations of India, Nepal and Bangladesh towards conservation and sustainable management of forests
  • United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the REDD+ 
  • Forest and its interaction with trade law (both national and international)
  • Common identifiable problems in the environment in the region
  • Public perceptions towards the protection of environment and related subject
  • Forest and Wildlife conservation, Human-Wildlife conflict, Management of protected areas
  • Forest and its interplay with international and national human rights law, UNDRIP, ILO Convention 169
  • Forest rights, property rights, and cultural, economic, customary and other rights of forest dwellers and indigenous/tribal/local people(s)/communities living in or around forests for their survival and livelihood
  • Forest people and their right to free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) in international law and the national laws of India, Nepal and Bangladesh
  • Policy-oriented framework pertaining to the protection of forest and rights of forest people
  • Attitude and contribution of judiciary in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh towards conservation of forests and protection of people’s rights
  • Role of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and civil society in advocating and strengthening the voice of forest people protecting their rights and enhancing conservation and sustainable development of forests.
  • Green litigation and dispute settlement mechanism in environment and forest related issues
  • New trends in environmental protection and interdisplinary approach in the environmental; perspectives

Abstract Submission

Applicants are invited to submit an abstract of not more than 350 words excluding the abstract’s title and name, email address and affiliation of the applicant. Applicants are required to mention their full name, email address and affiliation in the document containing the abstract.
