Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory

Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory is an integral part of Civil Engineering Department at GLA University, Mathura.

Geotechnical engineering is the branch of Civil Engineering which deals with the Engineering behavior of subsurface materials (soil can be a prime example). It comprises Soil Mechanics and Applied Soil Mechanics. Former is very much essential to identify, characterize and study the mechanics of soil/rock and Latter transfers the obtained behavioral knowledge to practice.

The whole knowledge transfer procedure includes investigating existing subsurface materials and conditions then determining their engineering behavior, important to the project considered and finally designing the foundations.

The Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory at GLAU is well-equipped with equipments for assessing all properties influencing the engineering behavior of soils. This includes, determining the Index properties which helps in identifying the class of soil; Compaction and Consolidation characteristics which shows the nature of soil against volume change and Shear strength of soils, which is the main property of soil to be used as an engineering material and to have a foundation to rest on.

Apart from the regular equipments required for the laboratory tests, Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory is also having the research specific setups and constantly looking forward to infuse other research oriented techniques and equipments.
